Our Tree of Hope Initiative
The holiday season can be especially painful for families living in poverty. While others are celebrating with gifts and abundance, parents who are struggling to make ends meet often feel deep shame and heartbreak at being unable to provide the same for their children. Children, too, sense this disparity – watching classmates receive new toys and clothes while they quietly go without. The experience can be isolating, creating a sense of invisibility and unworthiness that no child or parent should ever have to feel, especially during a season meant for joy and togetherness.
Our Tree of Hope initiative is designed to change that narrative. Through generous donations and the support of community sponsors, we match children in need with individuals and families who can help make their holidays brighter. Sponsors receive a child’s wishlist and shop for age-appropriate gifts, or they can contribute financially to help us fill in the gaps. The Tree of Hope initiative gives our neighbors a chance to show up for each other, reminding families in crisis that they are seen, valued, and not alone.
In Jefferson County, nearly 1 in 5 families lives at or below the poverty line—meaning the need is urgent and real.
